THERE IS NO GOD, BUT WE MUST PRETEND

The frown on your face grows as you try to recall what it was like to embrace your own mind and soul. To picture what it was like to breathe in and out again; to treasure the earth below. To analyse life and find comfort.
There is no back door, and that is incredibly scary. Youth encouraged us to believe that there is hope, but there is none. So, here comes summer, again. And again, and again, and again. The sun rises and sets with such haste. It me makes ache. It makes me sick.
Music and poetry are strong arms that hold and grasp your empty ones. They offer validation. They uplift. Connection on any other level is so fleeting, it’s often hard to tell if it really exists. We are socialised to fall into delusion.
There is no god, but we must pretend. There are no answers, but we must pretend. What other choice do we have than to feign to understand… and to try to be understood?
